Tim Hoven is a fourth generation Alberta Farmer who raises some of the world’s best organic beef.

From the Hoven Farm, near Eckville, AB, Canada, Tim, Lori and their 8 children grow certified organic beef and sell it directly to consumers through their little butcher shop at the Kingsland Farmers Market.

Hoven Farms Holiday Hours

Organic Christmas Turkeys

UPDATE: Hoven Farms is no longer accepting orders for certified organic turkeys. We are trying to get some turkeys for our walkup customers this weekend at the Kingsland Farmers Market. We will be posting info to our Facebook page and Twitter as we finalize details.

Hoven Farms will be connecting our customers with Prairie Roots Certified Organic Free Range Turkeys this Christmas season.

The turkeys will be available for pickup starting on the afternoon of Dec 22 until Dec 24.

There are a limited number of turkeys so order yours today!

Many people waiting until the last minute at Thanksgiving and we were sold out! Order early!

Questions and Answers

How big of a turkey do I need?

You should plan of 1lb of turkey per guest. If you like leftovers, plan for 1 1/4 lb per guest.

Should I buy fresh or frozen?

It depends on when you need the turkey. The turkeys will be available for pickup on Dec 23 at the Kingsland Farmers Market. They will be great for a meal on Dec 24, 25 or 26. If you are needing a turkey for a later day, eg Jan 1, you should buy fresh and freeze the bird, or just buy a frozen bird.

How long does it take to defrost a turkey in my fridge?

Look at this chart and plan accordingly. Remember to keep your turkey in the fridge to defrost it safely.

8-12 lb turkey needs 1-3 days to defrost.
12-16 lb turkey needs 3-4 days.
16-20 lb turkey needs 4-5 days.
20+ turkey needs 5-6 days to defrost.

It can take a long time to defrost a bird so you need to plan to make you meal a success.

How long does it take to grow a turkey?

It usually takes 16 weeks for a farmer to grow a turkey.

What are giblets?

Giblets are the heart, liver, and gizzard of the turkey. Sometime they come in a plastic bag inside your turkey. Please remove the plastic bag from your turkey as a cooked plastic bag inside a turkey can ruin your wonderful meal.
